Most women who sit down with us in a consultation come to talk about their hair. They tell us it is breaking, or thinning at the edges, or that it has stopped retaining its length. It makes sense to start there. The lengths are what you see in the mirror, what you touch every day and what everyone else notices.
Somewhere in that conversation, the scalp comes up. She mentions an itch that returns two days after a wash, or flakes that come back however often she changes her shampoo. She describes a tightness after braids that she has learned to live with, or a tender patch she has never shown anyone. When we look under the microscope, the scalp is very often where the story starts.
Your scalp is living skin. It has its own oils, its own barrier and its own balance of microorganisms, and the follicles your hair comes from sit inside it. By the time you can see your hair, it is fibre. So when the scalp is congested, irritated or out of balance, care on the lengths alone will not sort it out.
For a long time, scalp care has meant a quick scrub at the basin on the way to a style. We kept seeing what that leaves behind, consultation after consultation, and we wanted to give the scalp a place of its own.
There was something else we kept hearing. For many women, getting their hair done is something to sit through. There is the pulling, the tension and the hours in the chair, and it rarely feels like care.
We wanted the time spent on your scalp to feel different. We wanted gentle hands working with intention, water running across your scalp while you lie back and a room that is tranquil. A head massage releases tension you may not have known you were holding. We believe that belongs in hair care as much as any treatment does.
ScalpWorks is a private space at Tresses Lagos built for the scalp. It brings trichology and a restorative ritual into one session. The technical work of reading your scalp and follicles happens alongside gentle hands, hydration therapy and a space that is tranquil. ScalpWorks has its own treatment bed and four sessions of its own, each built around a different need of the scalp and follicles.
Inside A ScalpWorks Session
Every session starts with a microscopic analysis of your scalp and follicles. We look at buildup, oil, flaking and sensitivity, and we read the patterns and indications that show how your scalp and follicles are behaving, the way a trichologist does in a consultation. Together they tell us what your scalp needs that day, and the treatments that follow are tailored and targeted to it.
For a congested or flaking scalp, that may mean exfoliation with actives such as salicylic acid, a targeted antimicrobial wash, a Scalp Hydrafacial for a deeper cleanse and electroporation, a needle-free treatment that helps scalp treatments absorb more deeply. A reactive scalp is calmed first, with actives such as niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in formulations made and targeted for the scalp, not borrowed from skincare.
Where thinning is the concern, we use low-level laser light therapy, a non-invasive light treatment that supports follicular activity in suitable hair-loss patterns. For clients who qualify after a trichology consultation, we offer microneedling with exosomes.
Around all of it is the ritual of scalp massage, gua sha and our waterfall hydration therapy. Before you leave, your hair therapist gives you targeted home care for your scalp and tells you when to come back.
The Four Session
Find the session your scalp needs.
Scalp Health is for a scalp that is congested, flaking, oily or sensitive, or one that simply needs maintaining. We work out what is unsettling your scalp and bring it back into balance.
Follicle Health is for thinning and reduced density. We support the follicles in the areas of concern with non-invasive treatment chosen for your pattern of thinning.
Scalp + Follicle Health is for a scalp concern and thinning together. We sort out the scalp with the corrective steps it needs, then support the follicles to the level your scalp can safely take that day.
Advanced Follicle Health builds on Follicle Health with a more intensive treatment for the follicles. It is for clients who qualify after a trichology consultation and a scalp-safety check.
Your hair therapist will help you choose the right one at the start of your visit.
